 Dame Edna and MAC

We’re really not sure why anyone would want Dame Edna Everage make-up but MAC Cosmetics obviously think there’s a market for it… and who are we to argue? The tiny horn rimmed glasses on each product are cute though, it has to be said, and there is something rather marvelously kitsch about the range. ”I’m doing this out of love - I’m a giver,” says Dame Edna, “The audience’s applause was a little louder when I was wearing MAC on stage, so I was a convert. They didn’t have to coerce me.” Available from 26 December at Maccosmetics.com

 Beauty best seller

Apparently Boots’ Aqueous Cream has become an overnight best seller as the credit crunch sends people reaching for cheaper beauty essentials. Boots have revealed that some stores are having trouble keeping up with demand, ordering 10-12 tubs a day just to keep it on the shelves. Starting at £3.99, it’s clearly budget-friendly and you can hardly question its versatility - the cream can be used as a moisturiser, shaving cream, shower gel and even on chapped and dry lips… There’s just something so unglamorous about it - but, hey, who are we to argue with the wants of the masses?

 Gwyneth and the LBD

In today’s GOOP newsletter (sent to the lucky few to have registered on Gwyneth Paltrow’s new lifestyle/advice website), the Oscar-winning actress imparts top tips on how to wear that ever faithful classic - the little black dress. The newsletter even comes complete with pictures of Gwyneth revealing different ways of wearing… yes, you’ve guessed it… a little black dress! See above for our fave two looks. And, in case you’re itching to know what she says about the LBD, here’s a tasty morsel: “Personally, I like to stick to the classics in both my everyday life and in the evening. Whether I am going to meet friends for dinner, a cocktail party or a bigger event, the most classic of classics, the little black dress, never fails me. It could be Zara, it could be Balenciaga, but a well-cut, well-proportioned black dress has gotten me through many a fashion crisis.” … Right oh! We’ll keep you posted on more of her fashion ‘pearls of wisdom’ as they come…
